Scarlet Letter Devil imagery?

Ok so i am doing an english oral on the scarlet letter and i need to show the devil imagery in it. i have all of the characters and the way they sow it but i need to know about the guy who got murdered that they keep talking about and i need to know if the black weed is symbolic
